How to Submit Your Dissertation
Guidelines for Dissertation Submission
Uploading Your Dissertation
Dissertations should be uploaded to Proquest ETD site by 11:59 pm on the deadline for the given degree period. PhD candidates should upload to the HU ProQuest ETD .
Formatting
Dissertations should be submitted in their final format, in accordance with the guidelines listed on the Formatting Your Dissertation page of GSAS Policies. The Registrar’s Office will review the document for formatting compliance, and students will receive an email notification if corrections are needed.
Required Documents
In addition to submitting the dissertation, a complete and electronically signed Dissertation Acceptance Certificate (DAC) must be uploaded to the "Administrative Documents" section during submission in ProQuest ETD. The Doctoral Programs Office will provide the form during the dissertation process. The DAC must be the very first page of the dissertation and must be uploaded separately in Administrative Documents.
Embargoes and Copyrights
If students would like to request a delayed release of their dissertation of longer than 2 years, they will be prompted to upload a signed Dissertation Delayed Release Request to the “Administrative Documents” section of ProQuest ETD.
If you are considering placing an embargo on your work, note that by Harvard Corporation policy, embargoes require approval of both the Harvard University Librarian and the student’s academic department chair. Kyle Courtney in the Office of Scholarly Communication at Harvard is happy to meet with students to talk through the various options for access.
