Below lists awards and honors awarded by HBS to doctoral students and advisors.

Martin Award

The Martin Award is awarded to HBS doctoral students enrolled in the Ph.D. in Business Economics program who have excelled at conducting outstanding academic research. This Award is made possible through the generous gift of Roger Martin (MBA 1981), the current Dean of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, to support doctoral student research at the School. Students selected for this honor will be known as Roger Martin Doctoral Research Award recipients and they will be able to cite the award on their Curriculum Vitae.

To be eligible for the Martin Award, students must meet the following criteria:

  • They are currently enrolled in the Ph.D. in Business Economics program;

  • Have completed all degree requirements except for the dissertation; and

  • Have an approved dissertation topic.

Wyss Award

The Wyss Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research is awarded to HBS doctoral students who have excelled at conducting outstanding academic research. This Award is made possible through the generous gift of Hansjoerg Wyss (MBA 1965) which provides funding for doctoral education at HBS and helps the School build a rich and vibrant community of business scholars. Students selected for this honor will be known as Wyss Doctoral Research Award recipients and they will be able to cite the award on their Curriculum Vitae.

To be eligible for the Wyss Award, students must meet the following criteria:

  • They are currently enrolled in an HBS doctoral program;

  • Have completed all degree requirements except for the dissertation; and

  • Have an approved dissertation topic.
